@ramikalai @VitalikButerin @audreyt is the truest leader here: https://t.co/pcRDhlmMQ0
he pleaded guilty
made a plea agreement with the Gov for a recommended 5-6 year sentence
was brutal to watch, he could barely keep his head up
only hope now is leniency from the judge https://t.co/9CuOXIUIkq
Devastated to hear about Virgil pleading guilty.
The title of this talk at that conference was "blockchain and peace". His ambition was to use ethereum to make peace between North and South Korea.
Naive and impractical, sure, but not worthy of imprisonment.
@AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon my many rounds (always with respect.. or at least 97% of the times) with alex makes me think its a stab at non-bitcoin stuff.
we should kleros this with a prediction market wrapped around it.
@AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon because web3 stuff that exists without venture capital and has significantly rewarded the community more than insiders does exist.
Definitely sad for Virgil. He didn't harm anybody, didn't live in the US and didn't do anything to the US. US kinda think they own their citizens.
The Virgil case is one of the reason that I don't go to the US anymore despite doing part of my education there. https://t.co/3ZGMvPUY5N
@santisiri @AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon @proofofhumanity Def agree it exists. Just want to see (a lot) more of it. I see good founders thinking 50%+ to team+investors is ok; and big-name VCs happy to take allocations in such raises (evidently not advising otherwise). Need to recapture some of the early bitcoin/crypto ethos.

unpopular opinion: a first step towards twitter decentralization consists of signaling a crypto domain as a user handle.
@MonoCripto gracias por entender q no todos los días uno esta para debatir cualquier cosa.
@EthResearch1 people changing their appearance might be the only relevant one. so there should be a max cap on the elapsed time $ubi staking supports.
@robustus @AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon @proofofhumanity projects like $sushi and $yfi emerged purely out of a community. @proofofhumanity as well. afaik they haven’t received venture capital. legit and pure web3 does exist.
@avilches_eth @EveleensEric el max cap en tiempo debería ser una extensión relacionada a nuestro envejecimiento
@robustus @AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon i agree. the fact we can make this claims imho speaks wonders of web3 technology. i hope fairdrops become more frequent thanks to stuff like @proofofhumanity.

@jeremyarbid might need a version of the poh contract (or a wrapper) that can extend proof lifetime based on burnt $ubi.
@gladstein @AFDudley0 @a16z @cdixon maybe whoever controls the wallet ui controls how lightning nodes get funded?
there are plenty of lightning companies that received vc money. it’a the same difference between uniswap the company; and uniswap the protocol.

i think we should definitely do this. but with burns 🔥 — more impactful in supply, thus beneficial to price. https://t.co/e2pLoNFSqS
@gladstein @AFDudley0 @a16z @cdixon would you say @proofofhumanity has fake decentralization? if so were? asking for a friend.
great post on @Givethio to support $ubi on its forum, bring some $ubi love here: https://t.co/I9l9mqNFXb
@gladstein @AFDudley0 @a16z @cdixon money is more often than not a consequence than a cause. i doubt making money has driven vitalik or satoshi at all.. yet they both made f u money out of their personal pursuits.

@Matiasdem i just proposed this idea on the forum: https://t.co/tfjGZEBmC6 — could be a good implementation that aligns interests.
idea 💡: extend your proof of humanity verification lifetime (currently set at 1 year) by staking your $ubi.
@AFDudley0 @gladstein @a16z @cdixon the fact alex chooses to hit web3 instead of a16z or any vc for that matter baffles me. bitcoin maxis fear web3 more than they fear facebook. go figure.
@codofliess @proofofhumanity there are folks already building play to earn games with $ubi.

I don’t agree with the mantra that it takes a competing analysis to defeat an analysis.
We don’t demand that referees produce a full competing analysis to reject a paper, and for the same reason in the public sphere it shouldn’t be demanded.

Very saddened by the Virgil news. I’ve met him many times and he always struck as a sweet and generous soul.
He doesn’t deserve this.
By the way, you might notice I'm using Twitter's "only people I follow may reply" here. It's honestly a very related feature, it felt thematically relevant to use here. Notice the lack of phishers in my replies. Might need to follow more aggressively to keep it friendly.

I dunno who needs to hear this but banks, CEX's, and financial middlemen *ARE* the laundry machine.

@anup_malani @Pavithra_Suri @paulnovosad @AsherMasher @mmuthukrishna @cblatts HAHAH!
(I found this book interesting bc it challenges my priors. I associate alcohol with drunken louts, hangovers & more gender-based violence. I hadn’t considered it may have enabled social cooperation & commerce).

Happy Petrov Day, everybody.
Most Petrovs we will never hear of. They perhaps persuaded a political leader away from a rash decision, or advocated for safety features no one else cared about, or got fired for being cautious when their leaders needed a scapegoat during a near-miss.
This is essentially what happened to Stanislav Petrov. He was in charge of the immediate Soviet response to US missile attacks when on Sept 26 1983 a report came in that five missiles had been fired. He had minutes to react, and the protocol was to launch a full-on retaliation.
In a world where covid was made in a lab, & someone working in that lab had succeeded in preventing its escape, then we would likely have no pandemic, millions of people who would have died would be alive, & the lab worker would not be celebrated, and might even have been fired.

12/ This is why building to attract users vs building to solve important provlems is dangerous. We’ve got to keep our focus on the values of decentralization, and scaling with those in mind, vs the race to the bottom that are tradeoffs.
11/ By accepting the tradeoffs model leaned on heavily by VCs and their L1 plays, it all but guarantees that new chains will keep making tradeoffs to undercut incumbents, until eventually we’re back to trusted, centralized systems where users are as trust abused as they are today
10/ The problem here is the latter assume users are ok with trust and that it’s more important to serve users with low fees and high throughput than it is to serve them with censorship resistance and self-sovereignty. This essentially creates a race to the bottom scenario.
/9 While Bitcoin and Ethereum (which is admittedly struggling here with state growth) seek to prioritize low cost participation in consensus and validation, the new crop of VC L1s prioritize low cost participation in transacting.
8/ Virtually all L1s claiming to serve users excluded by high fees of Ethereum or Bitcoin trade off self-verifiability/validation and censorship resistancr in favor of low fees, high throughput.
7/ What I mean by that is, instead of trying to improve upon Bitcoin or Ethereum design, address difficult engineering and economic problems such that Bitcoin or Ethereum level decentralization and censorship resistance can be retained, they instead choose significant tradeoffs
6/ Instead of looking for ways to serve that pool of potential users within the ethos of early Bitcoin and Ethereum, they are more concerned with “getting” those users on board than “serving” them. Using users to drive value to the chain/token, vs providing real value to them.
5/ That has left a gap in the market of an exclused population of potential users eager to get in on the hype and opportunity. Something many opportunists have taken notice of.
4/ The problem is, in the interim between now and solving the scaling issue, both Bitcoin and Ethereum have become virtually unusable by the people they sought out to serve initially (regardless of the shift in Bitcoin narratives since the whitepaper was published)
3/ To retain a commitment to state level CR, scaling can only be accomplished at the base by addressing near impossible engineering and economics problems, or by making tradeoffs a layer up with the ability to guarantee a safe/secure exit back to base in the event of malfeasance
2/ Bitcoin and Ethereum have tried to retain this ethos while struggling with the challenges of commitments to it (the trilemma), and attempting to effectively address things like exclusionary, inefficient fee markets and state growth / full validation costs

@visakanv @eigenrobot "advanced damage" is going to live rent-free in my head
@visakanv @redcar_tenken wack. glad it's not just me at least
when people say they don't want to be inundated with "negativity" what they mean is that they don't want to feel powerless. it's confusing terminology tho because in this sense the opposite of "negativity" is not "positivity," it's action
@nbouscal @visakanv list of reasons you shouldn't make lists
@visakanv it was good enough for the buddha after all
https://t.co/sGStF7i5IG
okay so let's be a little more precise. there's a large vein of contemporary thought that considers "power" a dirty word and overtly spurns it; i see it as a protest against the abuse of power but it conflates that abuse with the power itself
https://t.co/fN3yHQ8H9Z
@visakanv sometimes i am like one of those robots where you point out a logical contradiction and they explode only instead of exploding i usually collapse
@visakanv one way i've been conceptualizing it is that i've put myself under a literally contradictory set of constraints, so progress inevitably looks like violating at least one of those constraints
i also really like to talk as if i know what i'm talking about; if you notice it getting particularly bad please make fun of me for it to snap me out of it
"power" is a word it's worth being very careful with. if it isn't "spiritual" to cultivate power then only "unspiritual" people will have power
@visakanv that's what the tiddies were for 😂

@DanielYRubin @imbernomics @thehill "And either way nothing else was allowed yet"
Again, I think this differed substantially from place to place. I was doing outdoor dining that summer, for example.
@DanielYRubin @imbernomics I don't think that's true (or, at least, it widely varied between communities).
@andreamatranga @AlexBartik @imbernomics When, in fact, any big social problem is the province of economics!
@AlexBartik @imbernomics I know I had gotten the message that outdoor activities were not dangerous prior to this. We had already started doing picnics and other events with friends.
I agree that getting that message pre-BLM required a lot of delicate parsing, which was not ideal.
@BelittleMyTakes @imbernomics I agree with @JamesGLeckie below.
I think that there was a failure in coordinating the communications of the risk mitigation factor of (masks/distance/outdoors/mobility) pre-BLM.
BLM sort of forced the coordination, but there wasn't anything new about the information.
@JamesGLeckie @imbernomics @BelittleMyTakes The other point is mobility - marches and rallies have very different risks.
@imbernomics But...also, they were correct?
I'm not sure I'm really following the argument. Should the public health community give incorrect, but politically beneficial, information about transmission risk?
In any case, after looking through the history of how the aerosol/airborne debate actually went down, versus what the textbooks said, I think it's really useful to look at history at times with fresh eyes. Did we really know this, or did we conclude something and kept asserting?
@visakanv That's the only take away i had from GTD methodology
In a conversation with my not very online friend today he said "should I know who Matt Yglesias is"
@visakanv Kind of like this? https://t.co/TUYrURhLpw

Art is a passion not profession until we get to next stage of capitalism/automation. Then creatives may finally be valued (will be the only thing left we can't automate). I'm here for this world! https://t.co/BQTHWft5MK
@visakanv YouTube and TikTok are really the only ones who are good at this. They surface completely unknown creatives to me daily which is amazing. Spotify and Soundcloud all out refuse to do this (there's even MORE musicians than video too).
@ashleydzhang @visakanv just enough to be slightly but not terribly uncomfortable I think
it's official:
My first book - part memoir, part "red state relocation guide" - is forthcoming spring 2022 via Bombadier Books/Post Hill Press.
It'll be about New York City, Texas, what it's like to live in a house & drive a car, raising your kids w/"culture," "roots", etc.
Sad to have my grandfather pass away this weekend. He was a US Army vet who served in Germany during the Korean Era. He also retired from the Salt Lake Police Department after a full career. He taught me to fish, hike, and love the beauty of southern Utah.

have some stuff going on in your life that you care about that has nothing to do with Internet points. play the guitar, learn to cook. It’s nice to have at least one thing that’s just for you that you refuse to turn into content
if you get triggered, feel attacked, defensive, want to fight back, etc, it’s generally best to just log out for a day or three, or a week. Most people who say shit just wanna say shit in the moment but don’t really care about you and will forget about you soon enough
generally speaking, the more touchy, difficult, triggering etc the thought might be, the more I advise that you be really circuitous about it. be long-winded, take many tweets, be verbose, be tedious, illegible. you want to bore the people who are itching for a fight
avoid affectations of authority. remember, Twitter does not have tone of voice or facial/body language, so people will read your tweets in *their* voice
it helps to introduce the textual equivalents of ums and ahs,,, be deliberately sloppy,, even mispelling sometiems https://t.co/GGRXf4rKeE
before posting a tweet I broadly recommend running it thru a sort of quick adversarial filter: what’s the worst interpretation someone could have of this?
you don’t necessarily ~always~ wanna do this all the time, but it’s a skill worth developing https://t.co/t5hzNDLkpl
my first rec is, if you have more than ~5,000 followers on main, get a locked private alt for your most trusted mutuals. you can use it to quote tweet any of your tweets and ask “hey, did I go too far with this one?”
you can also post more intimate/touchy stuff there

There's tons of ways to get involved. You may have ideas we haven't thought of. The more people who contribute, the faster we can take ENS to the world 🤝🤝🤝
/end
Show off your ENS name on Twitter 🤩
If you have an ENS name **that is attached to an Ethereum account you're okay making public**, then join the club and show yours off too!
Great way to spread the word about ENS and signal you're involved in web3
16/ https://t.co/KbXNzPOL34

ENS fairy 🪄
New projects start all the time but sometimes forget to snag their .eth name.
You can help by registering the names of projects, well-known ppl, etc & *offer it to them for free or at cost*
When you deliver, show it off on twitter and we'll celebrate w/ you!
15/
Community events 🎉
We'd love to get the ENS community more engaged with each other. Have an idea for a cool way to do that? Share it in our Discord and feel free to organize it!
Our new community manager @futurealisha can help you out too
14/
Ideas 💡
We're always looking for new ideas and feedback. Some of the best features were ideas from community members
Best places to engage with us and the rest of the community are Twitter and Discord (https://t.co/E5LaC6q9qY)
13/
Explainer materials 🎥
Videos, guides, blogs, memes, graphics, etc. Some of the best stuff like this for ENS has been made by the community 👏
We love promoting high quality materials made by community members
12/
**Now for non-dev ways**
Request dapps to integrate ENS 😇
Contact services that don't support ENS & *politely* request it. Extremely helpful b/c projects listen to users more than us
Tell them we'll add their logo to our website & tweet about their new ENS support 🤝
11/
Participate in our Workshops 🗣️
Non-devs can come too, just know these can get fairly technical. These are public events in which the community discusses the current state and future of ENS
Deadline to sign-up for our next one is Sept 30:

FYI, investors are looking for good teams building out the ENS ecosystem! 👀👀👀
https://t.co/AwiTg52qBg

- DNS registrar w/ easy importing of DNS names to ENS
- Easy dweb tools (like Wix)
- Manager UIs that serve specific audiences
(fyi https://t.co/SRpjsvczdt is just a UI to interface w/ the ENS smart-contracts, you don't have to use it, & anyone can build an ENS manager UI)
8/
Companies 💻
We've always envisioned that an ecosystem of for-profit and non-profit companies would grow up around the core ENS protocol to provide related services
Some ideas:
- Register names on ppl's behalf & accept CCs
- Custody services
more ideas below...
7/
Integrate ENS in your own dapps or others 👷
ENS is nothing w/o places to use it. If you have a dapp, integrate ENS!
Also feel free to submit PRs to open source dapps that don't have ENS yet
Crypto payments: https://t.co/MNjB7WevHO
Username support: https://t.co/8gW98gb2LS
6/
True Names LTD, the non-profit that does most core ENS dev, has full-time openings 📋
- Developer Advocate (improve docs, libs, talk to devs integrating, etc)
- Governance Lead (must have experience in defi gov & DAOs)
- Senior Solidity Dev

🏗️🏗️ HOW TO CONTRIBUTE TO ENS 🏗️🏗️
@ensdomains is an open, decentralized, non-profit web3 naming protocol: https://t.co/XoF1OxIRRE
This is a unique opportunity to help build a new protocol of the internet!
Here's how *devs & non-devs* alike can contribute:

To apply, follow the instructions in the job description and answer this question:
What is the most important thing that happened in Ethereum in 2021, and why? Your answer cannot be anything directly related to NFTs or DeFi.

You'll read, think, and write about the most important questions facing Ethereum. We'll probably co-author some work together.
Almost all of my friends who are devs have doubled or tripled their income over the last couple years. The only way for that to happen is to move to a new job. https://t.co/9F69khX11W

@ShimminyKricket None of these models is the actual morality, and which parts they do best at depends a lot on life experience, wisdom, etc. But it's not impossible to imagine there exists a theoretical morality that would encapsulate most such moral learning.
@ShimminyKricket One moral realist take is that there is such a thing as 1 morality, or at least 1 fairly tightly concentrated distribution of human moralities. But also we have imperfect introspective access and real-world knowledge so there are many models of morality that capture diff. parts.

@BeTheb0x This kind of thinking is directly backwards. Economic incentives at best are a way to make specific behaviors accessible or sustainable. There's no economic system in the world that's complex enough to actually incentivize human values themselves. That's very much on us. Daily.
@PhABCD @TCRPartyBot You prove it by making real, meaningful art succeed, in ways that successfully and positively transform communities, and in constructing NFT communities that center this priority and accomplishment. I also want this person proved wrong. There's just no shortcut to doing it.
@BeTheb0x Very dangerous abandonment of responsibility. Crypto isn't magic. Markets are only as pro-human as we force them to be by continuous effort and vigilance.
https://t.co/QKGADFP83g
@PhABCD @TCRPartyBot What I'm saying is that the threat they identify is real, regardless of whether they're right about it lacking exception or opposition. Criticisms like this have to be proved wrong in practice. Claiming the essence is mislabeled only works if that gets borne out.
@widrigapp I don't disagree, and you'll typically find the people I respect most anti-evangelizing instead. c.f.
https://t.co/yQZ4Sr6f39
https://t.co/dbSHFyqPok
etc
@widrigapp But NFTs are by far the most real-world relevant thing built on blockchains yet, and I do think a few more are possible once capacity is up and fees are down. In amongst the cynical bullshit are plenty of real people making meaningful change.
@widrigapp Counterpoint: the NFT cycle has been the first time I've actually seen meaningful opportunities introduced to people normally barred behind many hops from accessing the global market. Ethereum is still mostly a toy, and that can't be fixed until full scaling arrives.
@PhABCD @TCRPartyBot I think there's more to it than this: https://t.co/jxa2xkLUok
@widrigapp This element has absolutely been present in crypto since at least 2011. But it has never been the element that got core infrastructure built, research done, etc.
@widrigapp The many many bear markets before have proved that there are people in these communities who are not just about the money. There's no question we exist; the question is just whether we can retain and grow our collective culture and influence.
We also have to address things like this: https://t.co/RdQRGF2AZP
We also have to actually address the environmental impact of blockchains.
A criticism that can't be answered in words, only with actions. If we don't want to be this, we have to be deliberate. Other ways are possible. But we have to actually do them, not just talk about how they're possible. #Ethereum #NFT https://t.co/zEPswvOhDg

@yeetAnotherTim Current traffic is on the order of magnitude of 1 Mbps (sustained), but could be higher with sharding and/or if you have more than 1 staking slot. Not sure I've seen a full analysis for a pooled node specifically though, depends on design.
@yeetAnotherTim Depends on the specific adversary. If something like 24/7 streaming video exists as a plausibly large anonymity set you might be okay with the volume, and traffic would be disguisable with a latency penalty via bridge. But naive VPN unlikely safe anywhere with traffic inspection.
The informal norm I'm in favor of for fee errors:
-Most of the money returned
-Small but significant proportion (1%?) given to miner as reward for pro-sociality
-Larger but still proportionately small amount (2%?) given to an arm's length charity to reinforce pro-sociality norms https://t.co/az9UX6uFf4
@LefterisJP IANAL, but the objective of a sanctions case like this to set precedent (there was no threat from Virgil's actual actions). A guilty plea establishes that precedent, so it makes sense as a strategy to separate the "harm assessment" part from the "precedent establishment" part.
@Nightshade171 @zjdolan @evan_greer @NeerajKA This ain't it either. The reason OP missed it is that finding "side benefits" of a straight up wasteful energy burn is strictly worse than eliminating the energy burn. But your link ignores the architecture of the energy grid. Right now less nuclear means more gas (and CO2).
RT @mynamesnotgordy: What I learnt on the Twitter this week:

In other words, this is something that requires continual and ongoing work to improve bounds. We can't let these necessities out of our sights. I'm proud of what Ethereum has done so far, but it ain't over yet. There's still lots to do.
Mesh tech and better satellite internet can help with this somewhat, but bandwidth usage is still the most obvious, expensive, and easily fingerprintable aspect of validating under a totalitarian government. Eventually ZKP tech can help here, but it might take a while.
But assuming we address all these issues so that people really can validate on cheap devices, with little up-front capital, over high latency connections, the last remaining challenge will be to get bandwidth levels down. And that one's a doozy.
The biggest PoS concern, in my view, is that vulnerable users will be priced out because of the large deposits required. The answer to this, as we all know, is to MAKE POOLED TRUSTLESS STAKING EASY AND PRACTICAL. Ahem. Unless we deliver on that, the idea of "global access" dies.
The reduced cost of lighter hardware requirements is also a big part of improving access to be sure. But consider also the increased detectability of someone who uses a lot of power PoW mining. There are some ways to mitigate this, but none of them are cheap.
The principle of retaining access for people living under totalitarian governments is a core one #Ethereum must never surrender. One deeply underrated benefit of the move to PoS is that it makes high latency participation (e.g. via VPN/Tor/etc) much more feasible. https://t.co/CoWkzUz1nb

The optimal amount of freeloading in a society is nonzero, but ultimately you need to have baseline productive output to (literally) keep lights on and shelves stocked
We are flirting very aggressively with that baseline https://t.co/TPv1owYHyf

@gro_tsen For the curious, the OECD has about 5 medical doctors per 1000 habitants, the typical flight carries about 100 passengers, that leaves only about a 40% chance of a medical doctor being on board.
@visakanv the annoying part was that i had to make this connection on my own, and see a sinus doctor, and then take a sleep test (most stressful night of my life) for insurance approval, even though the doctor was like "yeah your left sinus is like completely blocked"
@visakanv got surgery a few years ago to realign my septum, could breathe thru both nostrils again, bruxism stopped, toothache disappeared. shit complicated
@visakanv turns out my toothache was actually caused by a deviated septum. i couldn't breathe from my left nostril, and ur "open" nostril switches every 2hrs as u sleep (the nasal cycle), so i would stop breathing while asleep & grind my teeth in an unconscious attempt to clear my sinuses
@visakanv had a severe toothache in my molar that lasted for years. went to dentists, they said it was caused by bruxism, grinding my teeth, no solution, needed a mouthguard (didn't work, just made all my teeth sore). ...

The only things I care about right now are savoring this time with family. And getting that Goddamn coin minted.

it's weird for so many people who don't know you, to have such strong opinions about you, which they voice not to you but to each other, and are opinions you know would probably be different if they hung out with you IRL. It's just a straight-up bizarre sensation.
@BLUNDERBUSSTED It feels like a lot of projection, though? Like, I can only offer a narrow slice of who I am online. I try to offer as wide a slice as I can (tons of vulnerable stuff on my blog). And people take the little they see and run really, really far with it.

The next phase of crypto is Crypto-Gaming
@AriannaSimpson convinced me of this on @BanklessHQ, and it was a no-brainer
First we built #DeFi
Then we layered on #NFTs
And upon those things, we can build crypto-gaming

@besttrousers @imbernomics The reputational problem comes from the double standard. I mean, having been broadly wrong on how and where COVID is transmitted is the source of a *separate* reputational problem. But the justification for the protests was a special exception for their subject matter.
@besttrousers @imbernomics If they had said gathering outdoors was a relatively low risk activity and people should do it if for a cause *they* consider important, that would have been very different and much better.
I think this should work well for both of us. https://t.co/mVEQOqaWN6

@visakanv I saw this the other day and thought "maybe they should try it"

@visakanv I talk about physical vs digital books.
The same considerations about memory and physical embodiment apply to the opposite process.
Switching mode to and from writing and thinking on paper and on file is very useful. Each one subtly nudges your mind in different directions.
I've just published a blog post on the recent wave of "Airdrop Scams", a type of crypto scam that preys on apps that optimistically auto-detect tokens. Know the source of your information, and don't trust strange tokens!

@paulsalis I agree. I've been saying this for years, but somehow this isn't obvious to other wallet teams. Hopefully this blog post helps, we need to change these norms.

I do have my locked alt @frozen_warmth for the reasons Visa explains in the thread but it's not as satisfying as baring my soul on main
Still need to find the right balance for what this activity offers me versus not hurting the feelings or privacy of others
I don't like this dynamic since Twitter was supposed to be the space where I could come talk about whatever I felt like talking about, pseudo-anonymously
This is my own fault, ig, for kind of being like "lol whatever" about opsec
But I experience it as a loss 😔
This thread is interesting on the timing because I've been reflecting lately on how I don't feel like I'm as free to emotional-post about my life as I have in the past lately

Yeah this is right, it gets very confused because of the way people talk about homogeneity and diversity, but the typical model is that unusual people move to cities so they can find the other people like them and build a network within one or two fairly narrow niches https://t.co/LPhMUsqrkT
@movebetterproj @visakanv My arms and legs often ache inexplicably (uncorrelated with exercise) and sometimes, at the end of a long walk or run, my left leg especially will start shaking uncontrollably and I'll have shooting pains in the leg.

sometimes founders think I’m a genius based on my quick answers to their questions but really it’s just that their questions aren’t near as unique as they think 🙃… they’re problems everyone struggles with and I’ve spent a HUGE amount of time thinking about them for 10+ years 😅
@visakanv [soothing, reassuring noises, identifying and naming feelings because now is not the time to do a root cause analysis and problem solve]
One of the reasons why I don’t like the commonplace that you should never tell smart kids they are smart—(on the grounds that doing so is praising a fixed trait and undermining a growth mindset)—is that being smart comes with distinct risks that need to be managed. https://t.co/6M57pOhIfl

People assume that if you love people you go to the city and vice versa, but in some ways it's the opposite. If you don't like 99% of people, in NYC you'll still find 80,000 that you do like. But in a village of 100 you may find 0. https://t.co/WtxfLAp4O5

Best tip? It’s an extreme sport being hyper visible on social and it takes training so don’t attempt the trick shot without practice https://t.co/T9MqlOjffB
@visakanv It’s totally an extreme sport. It takes skill and time and if you aren’t a professional you probably shouldn’t attempt that trick shot
The lack of an edit button on Twitter despite the increased use of threads is basically a war crime.
@visakanv @eigenrobot Yeah. I think a lot of bad Twitter experiences come from people behaving in ways only suitable for high trust environments, which are then visible to people who don't trust them because Twitter is public.
@eigenrobot Probably more often people don't want to consider morally charged hypotheticals because they distrust the motives of the people asking.
@eigenrobot I think "inability" is doing a lot of work here. People not wanting to do the thing you're asking them to do is not reliably a sign that they can't do it.
@ejames_c I shall scribble a furious diatribe against large margins in the margins of this book.

It is almost Q4 and that means that annual planning will dominate the lives of many product managers & leaders over the next several weeks (or sadly, months).

@acidshill Just yesterday I sent a single friend of mine in SF the Twitter profile of a mutual who's looking to date, and offered another friend in NYC to do a sexy photoshoot so she has great photos to flirt with. I'm the best grandma you can have.
I love NYC for the 100 people I really spend time with in the course of a year, the 100 people who don't play pricey status games and don't see me as a depersonalized object. What's funny though is that all 100 seem to follow @simonsarris on here...

@BrainBeastShaun @QiaochuYuan my brain when thinking about the urgent need to learn to build my own floor lamps out of cement: "holy fuck this is going to solve the entire meaning crisis"
my brain when thinking about ordering groceries for breakfast tomorrow: "the website is going to be slow, give up now"
@jbarro @besttrousers @imbernomics agree with the thrust of this, but it's worth noting the split between the actual government officials (fauci, de blasio) who said the protests were likely unsafe and the high volume, high visibility public health twitter community who tied themselves into knots
@AbstractFairy More simply put: “X doesn’t mean to them what it means to you. Tell each other what X means to you.”
@AbstractFairy Huge amounts of time & connection are wasted due to unstated differences in interpreted meaning and emotional weight of words, concepts, and behaviors.
You can save yourself and others a ton of pain by being willing to slow down and clarify rather than press forward.

@Aella_Girl It's rorsharch shit absolutely. It's mostly projection, but people approach you from whatever internal turmoil & associative net they've come preloaded with, so they don't have an option

@krishnanrohit @visakanv I think it likely would have helped me if it was delivered the right way and from a trusted source.
Like if someone had told me “this is the theme of Lolita” when I read it in high school and had personal conversations with me about it, that would have helped.
@visakanv Hmm. Those two examples feel a little too off center for the point to land but maybe there is some way to do it like that?
“You have great speed and fluency with abstractions, which is great, but it also means you are going to be really good at rationalization and rumination.”
As promised, though, I also owe him a surprise gift, so I'll need to think of what that should be. DM me any suggestions!
https://t.co/HBodA3xN2H
@wholebodyprayer I know someone and @visakanv RTd ya - dm me!
@visakanv I hear what you're saying. In my experience, a lot of this comes down to how important structure is to the participants. People who thrive in ambiguity can do well with the organic approach but others may totally flail.
@visakanv Wouldn't you say that beyond the excitement of talking to each other, we will eventually arrive at a point of "so what are we here to do right now?"
I think OP's thread points to the idea that the collective needs to organize around a specific reason beyond interaction.
i keep trying to explain how i feel about this & can never quite capture it. i'm going to keep trying, though.
i disagree with this. there's a particular way that videogames can be in love with their worlds, interested in dumping endless details on you, that i find really charming. https://t.co/iBSvHDZEzN

@QiaochuYuan My experience is that being exposed to a lot of negative / downer thoughts is like the opposite of gratitude practice. Focus on what you want more of! It’s not the tone, it’s the topic.
